Denise Ham

Denise has held principal conductorships with the Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Conservatoire Orchestra, Birmingham Conservatoire Junior School, Aberdeenshire Youth Orchestra, the Cheltenham Chamber Orchestra and the Bournemouth Rehearsal Orchestra as well as guest conducting in the UK and Europe. From 1987-2007 she was an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

She is Honorary Adviser to the Orchestral and Conducting Programme at the Kenya Conservatoire of Music.

Denise Ham has an international reputation as a teacher of conducting, giving classes throughout the UK, Europe, and Australia.

She taught conducting at the Royal Academy of Music from 1986-2009, and in 2006 established the Conducting Course at Blackheath Conservatoire, London. Denise founded and directed the Conducting Course at Blackheath Conservatoire from 2006 - 2016 and from 2016 – 2024 moved on to direct London Conducting Academy. For many years she was on the staff of the George Hurst Conductors’ Course at Sherborne (formerly Canford) Summer School of Music, and in 2021 she co-founded the Girton Conducting Course in Cambridge where she still teaches.
